About Checkpoint Guides

Guides written by people who actually finished the game, on the current patch, and fixed when the patch changes.

Most guide sites are written to rank, not to be right. A tier list scraped from a forum post, a codes page nobody has checked since launch week, a walkthrough for a version of the game that no longer exists.

We play everything we write about. We write it down while we play. And when the game changes, we change the guide.

What we do differently

Every guide shows when it was last updated. It’s at the top of the page, in green, because a tier list from last season is worse than no tier list. When a patch lands, we re-check the guides it touches and say what changed.

We check codes, not just collect them. Every code on a codes page has been redeemed by one of us. Expired codes stay on the page, struck through, so you stop wasting time on them.

Tier lists are played, not theorycrafted. Every tier list says what it was tested on: the patch, the mode, the difficulty, and whether we played solo or in a party. If we haven’t put real hours into something, it doesn’t get ranked.

We say what we didn’t test. Where we haven’t reached an endgame or tried a platform, we say so rather than implying coverage we don’t have.

What we won’t do

We don’t accept payment for coverage or scores. Publishers don’t see reviews before they publish. We don’t run guest posts or sell links, at any price.

Review copies are disclosed in the review. If a post contains affiliate links, it says so at the top. The full picture is on our How we make money page.

Who we are

Checkpoint Guides is written by a small team of players, and each of us covers the games we actually play. One of us lives in extraction shooters, horror games and shop sims. One is deep into Stardew Valley, The Binding of Isaac and Persona. One splits the week between Dark Souls, Arma and Call of Duty. Nobody here writes about a game they haven’t played.
