Quick answer

There are 14 Stencils in ARC Raiders. Eight drop Topside in raids, five come from the Premium Reward Pass at levels 11, 23, 35, 47 and 57, and one, Dragon’s Breath, only comes in the Collector Set. Learning a design is a one-time job, but every gun you decorate eats Stencil Parts: 2 for Uncommon, 4 for Rare, 7 for Epic and 15 for Legendary. It is cosmetic, it is permanent on that weapon, and whoever loots your gun gets the skin too.

Stencils are the weapon skin system Frozen Trail added, and they work nothing like the skins you know from other shooters. You do not unlock a skin for good. You unlock a design, then pay to stamp it on each gun, one at a time. Lose the gun and you lose the stamp.

That leaves three real questions. Which Stencils are worth chasing, where do the Parts come from, and which guns deserve the paint. All 14 are listed below with rarity, fit, cost and source.

How Stencils work

Treat a Stencil like a blueprint for a look. Find one, open it from your inventory outside a raid and you learn the design for good. Learning costs nothing. The Stencil Parts come in when you put the design on a weapon, and you pay again for every single weapon. Two Anvils means two payments.

  • It is cosmetic. Damage, handling and everything else stay exactly as they were.
  • Fit matters. Some Stencils fit one gun only. A couple fit around twenty.
  • It is permanent. You cannot take a Stencil off. Another Stencil can go over the top, but the first finish is lost for good.
  • It travels with the gun. If another Raider drops you and takes the weapon, the skin comes along. Your learned designs stay in your collection, but the Parts you spent on that gun are gone.

Think before you stamp. A Legendary Stencil costs 15 Parts and the gun can still be looted. Do not paint a weapon you are about to carry into a risky raid.

How to get Stencils

Topside drops

Eight Stencils are loot: Verdigris, Garnet, Ochre, Milky Terracotta, Cerulean, Dusty Camo, Slipstream and Tortoise. Lockers, containers and key rooms on the surface can hold them, and nothing ties a given Stencil to a given spot. You find them by opening things, which also happens to be how you find Parts.

The Premium Reward Pass

Five Stencils sit on the Premium track of the Frozen Trail Reward Pass. The Premium Pass costs 1,150 Raider Tokens, and finishing it hands the same amount back. That makes it close to free if you were going to level the pass anyway.

LevelPremium StencilFree track reward
11Fortuna (Epic)3 Stencil Parts
23Sacrifice (Epic)3 Stencil Parts
35Bulwark (Legendary)Stencil Parts
47Serac (Legendary)5 Stencil Parts
57Empyrean (Epic)5 Stencil Parts

The free track pays out Parts at the same five levels. Level 35 is listed without a number, so count on at least 16 Parts from the free track alone. That covers one Legendary or two Epics before you ever open a raid container.

The Collector Set

Dragon’s Breath is the one Stencil that neither raid loot nor the pass gives you. It sits in the Frozen Trail Collector Set, which also holds the Renzo outfit, the Bob hairstyle, 2,400 Raider Tokens, a Retro Sofa for your Outpost and the only Banjo blueprint. The set also unlocks the Premium Reward Pass, so one purchase gets you six of the 14 Stencils. Embark does not list a price on its announcement, so check your platform store.

What each Stencil costs to apply

Rare4Milky Terracotta, Cerulean, Dusty Camo
Epic7Slipstream, Tortoise, Fortuna, Sacrifice, Empyrean
Legendary15Bulwark, Serac, Dragon’s Breath

Costs add up fast on a main weapon you run in several copies. Four Anvils in Fortuna is 28 Parts.

Where to farm Stencil Parts

Stencil Parts are an Epic rarity basic material. They stack to 500, they weigh next to nothing and, as far as anyone has found, they have no recipe and cannot be recycled. You find them or you do not.

Look in Industrial, Commercial and Residential zones on every map. Drops are random. A house that gave you Parts yesterday may give you nothing today. So the plan is to pick a route with plenty of buildings and open every drawer, wardrobe, cabinet and suitcase along the way. Maps with big blocks of homes and apartments, Buried City being the obvious one, give you more containers for each minute of risk.

How to apply a Stencil

  1. Open your stash outside a raid.
  2. Right click the weapon and choose Inspect.
  3. Open the Stencils tab.
  4. Pick a learned Stencil that fits that weapon.
  5. Confirm and pay the Parts.

You need to have learned the design first, which means opening the Stencil item from your inventory. You can only stamp a gun that is in your inventory or stash, and each copy of a weapon needs its own application.

Which Stencils are worth your Parts

Cosmetics are a matter of taste, but the Parts are a budget, so here is how I would spend them.

  • Garnet and Ochre first. Two Parts, huge fit, and between them they cover most of the armory.
  • Cerulean is the value pick. A Rare that fits eight guns for four Parts.
  • Slipstream and Tortoise beat the single gun Epics. Fortuna, Sacrifice and Empyrean each fit only one weapon for the same seven Parts.
  • Legendaries are for your main. Bulwark, Serac and Dragon’s Breath each fit a single gun and cost 15. Only stamp them on a weapon you extract with reliably.

Common mistakes

  • Stamping a Legendary on a gun you lose every other raid.
  • Assuming one application covers every copy of a weapon.
  • Buying into the Premium Pass or the Collector Set before checking that the guns you use have a Stencil.
  • Treating the Parts like junk loot and leaving them in an open bag.
  • Expecting to undo a Stencil you do not like.

FAQ

Do Stencils change weapon stats?

No. They only change how the gun looks.

How many Stencils are there?

14 at launch. Eight are Topside drops, five are on the Premium Reward Pass and one is in the Collector Set. The official Frozen Trail 2.0 post has the breakdown.

Can I remove a Stencil?

No. You can layer another Stencil on top, but the gun never goes back to how it started.

What happens to my Stencil if I die?

It stays on the weapon. If someone loots the gun, they get the skin with it. The design stays learned on your account, so you only lose the Parts you paid for that copy.

Do I need the Premium Pass?

No. Eight Stencils drop in raids, and the free track of the pass pays out Parts. The Premium Pass only adds five Stencils, and the Collector Set adds Dragon’s Breath.

Can I craft or recycle Stencil Parts?

Nothing has turned up so far. Parts only turn up as loot in the three zone types above.
